Postby banger@epgStream on 01 Jan 2008, 16:44

Every now and then we'll all see those cryptic Media Center download messages that appear and wonder what they mean and how we should fix them! In this topic we'll list the most common errors we come across and give you an explaination!

GUIDE DOWNLOAD ERROR 3 or "Windows system error (Code: 3)."

    Domain: Your Local Machine
    Category: Windows Service
Problem: Media Center uses the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (or just plain 'ole BITS) to handle your guide download requests. The error you're encountering indicates your BITS is currently disabled or has been stopped.
Solution: To fix this you should try the following command from a Command Prompt console:

    Code: Select all
NET START "Background Intelligent Transfer Service"

If you get a "... Service was started successfully." message then you should be able to download your guide.
If you get a "System error 1058 has occurred." then your BITS service may be disabled and you'll have to set the service's Startup Type to Manual. If you're not sure how to do this then just reply to this post and we'll let you know how to do it.

GUIDE DOWNLOAD ERROR 13 or "No connection was detected."

    Domain: Your Local Machine
    Category: Network Connectivity
Problem: When Media Center cannot connect to our EPG service due to network card or connection failure on you local computer.
Solution: Simply check your network connectivity is available (launch a Web Browser) and then try again! Also make sure your system's Date, Time and Time Zone are correct.

GUIDE DOWNLOAD ERROR 20 or "File validation error - mismatched guide package."

    Domain: Our epgStream.net Server
    Category: Guide Data
Problem: Due to an issue within our EPG service, the guide you have selected has become corrupted and cannot be downloaded and loaded.
Solution: Please notify epgStream.net support if you believe our servers are offline!

GUIDE DOWNLOAD ERROR 34 or "Guide Server error (Code: 34)."

Domain: Our epgStream.net Server or Your Local Machine
    Category: Network
Problem: Our epgStream.net server is not contactable due to your local machine firewall restrictions or because our server is offline.
Solution: Please notify epgStream.net support if you believe our servers are offline!
    Microsoft KB556075:

"It happens if the firewall is enabled. This is a known issue with Norton Personal Firewall.Disable the firewall and then re-download the guide. If that doesn't help then go through the guide setup again."
